Palletizing of mink feed blocks

Background

Vildsund Fodercentral has undergone a lot of changes with building extensions and renovations, and as part of the modernization the factory has now invested in a full automatic PanPac palletizing system of frozen feed blocks. The feed factory receives both fresh and cooked supplies from home and abroad. This is being poured into plate freezers and frozen into blocks. With eight plate freezers the factory is, in high season, able to produce approx. 200 tonnes of mink feed in one day.

Annually, the feed factory produces approx. 48,000 tonnes of mink feed, and this requires a lot from the production facilities, as this type of industry wears out the production equipment.

Installation

According to Verner Jensen, the manager of Vildsund Foder, the factory has undergone many changes and renovations. When the new extension was built in 2016, the manager planned a palletizing facility, and in 2017, he decided to invest in a full automatic palletizing solution of the frozen mink feed blocks. The background for choosing a PanPac solution is to be found in a mutual reference, where PanPac previously has delivered a very satisfying palletizing  system.

The blocks are transported from a plate freezer to a block separator where the robot lifts two blocks at a time, and then palletizing the blocks directly on the floor. Then, a forklift transports the blocks to the freezing house for later use.
”The installation went as planned, PanPac was on time. We molded the socket and prepared the electricity, and then PanPac came to install the rest,” explains the manager.

Open solution

According to Verner Jensen it is imperative with a palletizing system when you produce this daily capacity - several tonnes are lifted everyday, and you cannot do that with a shovel, you need machines, he smiles. The environment is hostile, both wet and cold, and it is cleaned several times a day around the robot, which is placed on a socket. Fortunately, the robot has a very fine cleaning position, where the tool can be cleaned without exposing the robot to water, so this open solution appeals a lot to Verner Jensen - it looks good, says a pleased manager.
